Rarity 10 Georgia Belt Plate
Item #: OS-6975
This remarkable excavated Georgia oval belt plate began life as a standard blank faced oval modeled on the U.S. 1839 model. With invasion of the South imminent in 1861 the demand for military equipment prompted a local Georgia shop to make an extremely small number (based on there being only two or three of these plates being known to exist today) of these plates by die stamping an octagon disc bearing the Georgia State Seal and attaching it to the blank faced oval. This particular plate was excavated in Marion County, West Virginia. It is perfect, there is no other way to describe it; perfect! |
