Excellent Excavated Breckinridge Belt Plate
Item #: OS-8067

The Confederate States, CS waist belt buckle shown here measures 56X86 mm and is known as "Breckinridge” pattern. This plate is one of the rarest of the CS ovals; far rarer than the regulation or the rope border patterns; rarer than the Mullinax would lead one to believe.

The "Breckinridge” moniker that has been tagged to this buckle came about by early relic hunters finding some of these in sites occupied by General Breckinridge’s troops in Virginia. Since that time, most have been found in Tennessee and Georgia; to a lesser degree, other Western Theatre sites.

The plate is original as found with the exception of the reattached, original hooks
