Huge, Published Confederate Bowie Knife
Item #: OS-7902
The Bowie knife shown here measures a whopping twenty inches, making it among the very largest of the Confederate Bowie knives. It is extremely well made, having a fourteen and a half inch pronounced clip point blade with a four inch reverse edge. The knife is clearly designed for fighting as exhibited in the downturned iron cross guard, which is designed to catch, and twist an opponents knife out of his hand. The slab oak grips are hollowed for the tang and come back together at the pommel. The grips are set into an iron ferule and fastened with two iron pins. The knife remains as solid and tight as the day it was made. The form fitted, leather scabbard is made with the same quality as the knife, it being of the heaviest leather and the seam being filled with an extra layer to protect the thread from the blade’s edge. All of these features are indicative of the most skilled craftsman. The knife is published on page 247 of Confederate Bowie Knives. Both knife and its original scabbard are perfect. This is an ex-Michael Kramer, and John Ashworth collection knife. Sold |
