I know, I know, you can’t tell a Federal from a Confederate Snake Buckle, that is why you never see me selling them. This one is different, there is actual evidence of it being Confederate. The studs and hook excavated with it are distinctly Confederate.

This had a history of having been dug by Wallace Markert in Dinwiddie (next door to Petersburg) in the 1980s. I personally contacted Wallace and asked if these pieces were dug together, and he wrote back: "they were all together within two feet of the snake buckle with its keeper”
