Colt Pocket in its Confederate Holster
Item #: os7957
This Colt Pocket Revolver came out of North Carolina, where it was found by once prominent North Carolina collector and author, and all around Southern Gentleman, William Ivey. Being an old school Southern Gentleman, Bill did not collect Yankee things, but this revolver had always been in this wonderful Confederate holster, ergo, it was not just a Confederate holster, it is a Confederate revolver. Albeit, it’s not the same as buying a Confederate revolver, but just as surely a Confederate used. Its Confederate holster is simply made of a single piece of leather, cut out, an iron buggy awning finial was bradded over a square tin wash and then the leather was folded and stitched. This was simple, used what was at hand, and made a very serviceable holster. The holster is in very good condition. I would say perfect, but the eyelet was split at some time and has been repaired. Otherwise, the holster is soft, supple and the stitching is tight a strong. The 1849 Colt Pocket Revolver that it protects is Serial number 31283, which was made in 1852. All of the serial number match, the lines are sharp, the burl wood grip is beautiful. It is mechanically perfect, and almost as tight as new. Being a Confederate aficionado, I am not used to estimating how much blue remains on a gun, but my best estimate is 70%. It also retains 70% of its silver. There are no case colors left. The rolled on stagecoach scene is complete and strong. There simply are no defects to report.
