This sixth plate ambrotype is one of the more outstanding images from the War. The private is unidentified, but his hat proudly displays his regimental and state affiliation. This image has been published multiple times over the years and will be instantly recognized by long time connoisseurs of Confederate photography because of its extraordinary content.

In addition to the slouch hat with the 11 ALA, he wears a "Georgia” frame belt pinning his cartridge box strap to his side and it also secures either a Spiller & Burr or more likely a Whitney revolver. He holds a Model 1842 musket complete with bayonet by his side.

The image clarity is excellent; I have done my best to photograph it so it shows it naturally, as it appears in your hand. However, it should be noted, that everyone’s monitor has different characteristics and each is adjusted differently, so I will describe the image also. It has very good contrast everywhere except for the bayonet. There are some scratches, as shown. The image is in a paper covered half case.
