Early War Virginia Sword Belt Buckle
Item #: OS-7918

The buckle bears the Virginia coat of arms, Virtue standing over a defeated Tyranny, surrounded by Virginia’s motto; "Sic Semper Tyrannis” which translates to "Thus Ever to Tyrants.” The tongue and wreath portion are made from cast brass. The disc portion is die-struck brass. This two piece sword belt pattern was manufactured for sale to Virginia’s prewar militia officers and to her War time officers. Note the reversed ribbons, it is identical to Mullinax’s Expanded Edition, plate 406 and is dated circa 1860-65. It has the early war straight bar behind the die stamped seal.

The buckle has had a lot of use and shows extensive wear but it remains in excellent condition.

It is virtually perfect and has a pleasing untouched, natural patina!
