The condition of this plain oval Virginia belt is perfect. By that I mean it is in perfectly new, as issued condition, but with 150 plus years of beautiful, untouched patina. These belts were issued to Virginia State Troops prior to the War Between the States. The belt is russet leather, with a heavy japan coating, sometimes referred to incorrectly as tarred, on the outside. The belt still has a nice gloss to it and is not cracking in the least and even retains its keeper. The belt had no provision for sword hangers, meaning it would have been issued to enlisted infantry.
